Journalism, more important than ever -- please join us

Newsrooms are shrinking. That's why the North Dakota News Cooperative was formed in 2021 to delve into stories that matter to North Dakotans.

Correspondent Michael Standaert was hired the next year to dive deep into a broad range of topics. The stories are available here and provided at no charge to all the state's newspapers, too. Remember to subscribe so you'll stay up to date and receive emails when new content is published.

Since we started we have been able to:
* Share statewide stories you may not see elsewhere about nursing home staffing, critical needs of ambulance services and childcare services;
* Read about what others think about North Dakota's carbon capture plans and how national concerns in the ag industry are being dealt with here.
* See in NDNC stories first what state officials have to say about a plan – unknown to them – for a Canadian nuclear power plant just a few miles across the ND border.
* And so many more. Please browse our cataloged stories and suggest ideas for other stories, too.

In 2023 we started the ND Poll, as the only statewide poll to take the pulse of North Dakota residents and voters. The quarterly poll is offering insight and direction to leaders and lawmakers in a way that hasn't been possible before.

Currently we're funding our efforts with foundation grants and donations. Our hope is to:
1) grow our newsroom because, like you, we know how important factual, vetted news is to our state's communities,
2) grow our presence with the public through engagement since we all know that news literacy at all ages is in danger, and
3) grow the public's awareness that journalism and a strong democracy go hand in hand.

If you like what you see and you want to help us continue to bring you stories about North Dakotans that you aren't seeing anywhere else, please subscribe, tell others about us, share our news and donate.

North Dakotans need journalism.
